The Act came into force in 2013, and within a few years, a substantial body of case laws and its interpretation by the courts has rapidly accumulated.
Workplace sexual harassment continues to include people enjoying a high political and public profile. Because of the large number of cases involved including such high profile cases, the courts have been regularly conducting scrutiny of these cases and interpreting the provisions of the POSH Act.
Therefore, there is a constant need for all the stakeholders that are involved in the legal process – the victims, the respondents, the lawyers, the employers and those engaged in the complaints redressal mechanism – to have a requisite familiarity with the underlying principles enshrined in the Act.
